Since 1993, Honor the Earth has had the privilege of working in partnership with and awarding grants to over 100 grassroots Native organizations. From sacred sites protection and energy justice initiatives to language and lifeways restoration, these groups work diligently to protect their land, their lives, their culture and traditions against great odds. Politically and geographically isolated, Native communities all too often operate with insufficient funding, little infrastructure or training, and lack basic resources. Over the years, by organizing our concert tours, engaging in collaborative philanthropy and creating an active donor base, Honor the Earth has helped raise the profile of these struggles. In our first decade of existence we have directly allocated over $800,000.00 dollars to Native communities. We remain committed to breaking the isolation in which our grantees work while continuing to strengthen our leading role in Native philanthropy. In 2005, Honor the Earth and Indigenous Environmental Network hosted an Informational Briefing on Native Youth Organizing (Microsoft Word format). This briefing provided an opportunity for Native youth organizers to present to funders on issues such as economic, environmental and social justice. JOIN US in our strategic grant-making effort. In 2000, Honor the Earth and Tides Foundation launched the Native Communities Initiative- a grant-making initiative designed to increase funding to effective, front line Native American grassroots organizations.
