Husky Refinery Public Hearing On Air Emissions PSD Permit Application, Prevention of Significant Deterioration
In April 2018, the citizens of Superior Wisconsin were evacuated due to an explosion at the Husky Refinery, a major accident that could have led to a large release of Hydrofluoric Acid. Now, rather than transitioning to safer alternatives, the Superior Refinery Company is seeking to upgrade equipment and increase capacity. This creates not only an increase in emissions, but also in carbon and social costs.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has already made a preliminary determination that this application is “approvable”.
Join Honor the Earth and citizens in the Twin Ports on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the public hearing for the Husky Refinery and have your voice heard. This company does not have a good track record and the risks associated to the release of hydrofluoric acid is too great to risk. These permits must not be approved without discontinuing the outdated use of Hydrogen Fluoride which poses a major risk to our community.
