Judy Dow, Abenaki
Ms. Dow has been making baskets for over forty years and has
been a teacher for twenty-five years. With students of all ages, Ms. Dow teaches
the belief that what we do to the land, we do to ourselves and that our actions
have consequences. In her outdoor classes, she acknowledges the smallest threads
of connections within ecosystems, teaching her students that they can make
a difference if they understand the bigger picture. Ms. Dow has served in many
capacities on various American Indian boards. She was the recipient of the
2001 Essex Educators Association ‘Friends of Education' award and the 2004 Vermont Governor's Heritage Award for outstanding educators. Ms. Dow is the mother of two and has been married for thirty–one
years.
