G. Peter Jemison, Seneca
Mr. Jemison's paintings, works on paper, mixed media, and video represent elements in the natural world in various contexts that echo the symbolic power in indigenous culture. For over 30 years, his art has explored many topics, from portrayals of contemporary social commentary to works that reflect his relationship with the natural world. Known for his naturalistic paintings and series of works done on brown paper bags, his works embody “orenda,” the traditional Haudenosaunee belief that every living thing and every part of creation contains a spiritual force. Educated in New York and Italy , Mr. Jemison's work has been exhibited around the world. He has been called one of the most "eloquent Native American voices."
