Apolonia S. Santos, Yakama/Tygh
Ms. Santos has lived her life as an artist and traditional fishing woman, along with her mother, Lena Teewee Santos. They are members of the Yakama Nation and the Tygh of Tlxni (Falls of a Woman's Hair). Santos has been an active organizer of environmental summits and cultural events, including work as a Greenpeace Fellow on national fisheries legislation and as a public education campaigner. She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Oregon College of Art and Craft. In addition to painting, Ms. Santos creates works using serigraphy, photography, fabric arts, metals/jewelry and poetry. Her artwork has appeared internationally and nationally.
