The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe is holding a public hearing on Enbridge Energy's proposed Sandpiper oil pipeline and recently announced Line 3 replacement pipeline, both of which would pass through the 1855 Treaty Area. An information session will be provided and then public and expert testimony will be taken.
June 5 , 2015, at East Lake Community Center, at 10am.
Band members are encouraged to attend and offer information and perspective about these proposed oil pipelines and their impact on the welfare of the Mille Lacs Band and the territory of the north. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (the state regulatory agency in charge of the permitting process) has held a series of hearings taking testimony from public and local governments. However, no hearings were held on any of the Indian reservations that would be affected by this project. This is an opportunity for local people to document the ways they will be impacted.
