Summary
Dams on the Snake River (on Nez Perce land) have been put up by the Bonneville Power Administration and are the continuation of the dams from the Columbia River. These dams have obliterated the salmon; the power in this area production is on the backs of the salmon and the rivers. Because their culture is centered around the salmon, the Nez Perce have suffered greatly from this degradation of their rivers. Tony Johnson spoke to a sold-out crowd about his tribe's fight to restore rivers and right the past wrongs of bad utility policy.
We proposed that the dams be decommissioned and replaced with clean, renewable energy sources, such as wind power and low-head hydro (low impact dams that don't hurt salmon).
