Honor the Earth: Music: Concerts & Tours: 2003: Speaking Tour: Nevada

Nevada

We stayed in the small town of Elko, Nevada so that we could make a day trip out to the Western Shoshone Defense Project headquarters (a trailer in Crescent Valley, Nevada) and visit with Carrie and Mary Dann, Western Shoshone sisters and ranchers. An hour or so into open range and mountains, we came to the Dann's Ranch, nestled at the foothills of the Shonrange. The Dann sisters have been fighting the federal government and mining corporations over land rights and grazing issues. We met with the elderly sisters for a few hours, learned of their ongoing struggle for land rights and discussed what Honor the Earth can continue to do to support them. (See the tour photo gallery for some pictures of the beautiful horses the Danns have on their ranch). That evening, we had a dinner meeting with Ian Zabarte and Chief Raymond Yowell of the Western Shoshone Defense Project.
