Rally/ Press Conference/ Hearing: Protect MN from the Sandpiper Pipeline!

may7.jpgWe need your help to face down the Enbridge Sandiper pipeline.

On may 7 oral arguments will be heard for Honor the Earth's motion to dismiss the Sandpiper pipeline case in St. Paul, MN, and we are asking you to be there and to bring your friends and family. The organization has presented cutting-edge tribal law that provides environmental protection for all.

The proposed pipeline violates Ojibwe treaty rights of tribal members to hunt, fish and gather in ceded territory, and puts the land and waters of northern Minnesota at definite risk. The new pipeline would run through northern Minnesota and the Mississippi Headwaters region, home to some of our state’s cleanest lakes, rivers, streams and other wildlife habitats. The state of Minnesota has admitted they have limited jurisdiction over treaty guaranteed rights, and so they can not ignore tribal authority and permit unilaterally. We need everyone to voice their concerns, and stop this pipeline from being approved.

At 12:00 PM there will be a group of drummers and a press conference with Winona LaDuke and others to raise awareness of the rights of tribal members.

At 1:30 PM we will pack the PUC large conference room with supporters of Honor's motion to encourage the dismissal of the pipeline case.

The press conference will be held outside of MN Public Utilities Commission office in St. Paul.

121 7th place east, st paul mn.
