1) HUD OFFERS GRANT FUNDS FOR GREEN AFFORDABLE HOUSING (UP TO $50,000 PER PROJECT)

Eligible Applicants: Open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits; public housing authorities; tribally designated housing entities; for-profit entities; and for-profit entities participating through joint ventures with qualified organizations.

Applications must be received online by September 18. Awards are expected to be made by the first week of November. 2) NATIVE NON-PROFIT TO FOCUSE ON GREEN COLLAR CAREERS

The website provides a wealth of information on green technology, training resources, and projects in Indian Country. Additional resources provided include: nationwide listings of Native Chambers of Commerce, Urban Indian Centers, and Tribal Colleges as well as green Native businesses, green grants for tribes, green tribal news and links to other Native environmental organizations.

Austin, TX , August 5, 2008: A new Native operated 501(c)(3) is turning its focus on Green Collar careers for American Indians and Veterans. Native Workplace (NWP) is officially announcing their new effort to help the community connect with the thousands of careers created by growth in renewable energy industries .

Their mission is to promote Green Collar careers , and to develop an American Indian & Veteran workforce for green industries. However, they also intend for NativeWorkplace.com to become a hub for information regarding green growth in Indian country as well as an educational site.

3) SOLAR ENERGY INTERNATIONAL OFFERS TRAINING

Solar Energy International (SEI) is a USA non-profit organization whose mission is to help others use renewable energy and environmental building technologies through education. SEI teaches individuals from all walks of life how to design, install and maintain renewable energy systems, and how to design and build efficient, sustainable homes. 4) U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT GRANT WRITING TRAINING

HUD is offering 60 free Grant Writing Training workshops in 2008 from March - September. The sessions are FREE and open to the public. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.

Participants receive personal instruction from key HUD staff on how to become more competitive for Federal grants, secure 501(c)(3) status, and the organizational structure necessary to secure government funds. Workshop topics include: organizational capacity building, grant proposal writing techniques, accessing government funds, HUD common factors for award, and tips on working with local government agencies.
