Honor the Earth: What's New: Intertribal COUP Wind Energy Training Scheduled for September and October

 

WIND ENERGY and FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION TRAINING

September and October 2007

Intertribal COUP and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe will be hosting a wind energy training at Rosebud and Pine Ridge, sponsored by the Department of Interior funding, to be held in late September and October. The training will involve both classroom and hands-on activities including the foundation and installation of a 65 kW turbine at KILI at the end of October. This training will highlight the information and skills that will be necessary for the construction of small and large wind turbine foundations, similar the foundations used at Ft. Berthold (65 kW) and Rosebud (750 kW) projects.

More information will be forth coming on the final training schedule shortly.

~ APPLICANT PREFERENCES ~

Applications from enrolled tribal members from the member COUP Tribes which are participating in the Intertribal Wind Demonstration Project will be given first preference for the 30 training slots. Half of the training slots (15 slots) will be available for Rosebud tribal members and the other half will be available to other COUP tribal members, for this initial training which will be held primarily at Rosebud. Future training activities will be at each of the participating intertribal wind project reservation sites, with preferences going to tribal members of those host reservation sites.

WEATS TRAINING STILL AVAILABLE REGISTER NOW!!

Preference will also be given to applicants who have completed the Wind Energy Training Application Symposium (WEATS) offered at the National Wind Technology Center of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado. The application process for WEATS is still open for this year's training with a limited number of slots available.
