White Earth Band - Public Hearing on Sandpiper and Line 3 Pipelines

The White Earth Band of Ojibwe and Rice Lake community are holding a public hearing on Enbridge Energy's proposed Sandpiper oil pipeline and recently announced Line 3 replacement pipeline, both of which would pass within the exterior boundaries of the White Earth Reservation and the 1855 Treaty Area.  An information session will be provided and both public and expert testimony will be taken.  Food will be served.

June 4 , 2015, at Rice Lake Community Center from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Band members and local community members are encouraged to attend and offer information and perspective about these proposed oil pipelines and their impact on the welfare of the White Earth Nation and the territory of the north.  The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (the state regulatory agency in charge of the permitting process) has held a series of hearings taking testimony from public and local governments.  However, no hearings were held on any of the Indian reservations that would be affected by this project, despite numerous requests.  This is an opportunity for local people to document the ways we will be impacted.
