On January 7, 2013, the Park Rapids League of Women Voters will host a discussion on the Sandpiper Pipeline proposed by Enbridge Company to run from North Dakota across Minnesota to Superior, Wisconsin. The forum will be held a: 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Northwoods Bank Community Room 1200 East First Street Park Rapids, MN. Seating and space is limited.
Honor the Earth is pleased that the League of Women Voters is sponsoring this informational session. The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
The panel discussion will include: Tracy M.B. Smetana, Public Advisor Consumer Affairs Office, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, Lorraine Little, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for Enbridge, Winona LaDuke, White Earth tribal member, economist and executive director of Honor the Earth. And, Nathan Kestner, Regional Environmental Assessment Ecologist Region 1 MN DNR Division of Ecological & Water Resources, NW Region.
The goal of the meeting is to provide the public with factual information so that they can make their own decisions. Also to help the public understand how they can get their voices heard on these matters.
The Ground rules below were modified from the established rules from candidate forums that League of Women Voters runs during elections. Our moderator, LuAnn Hurdlof is a trained League moderator and has conducted candidate forums for several years in the Park Rapids area.
