More on what's happening on May 7:

On May 7, oral arguments are going to be heard for Honor the Earth's motion to dismiss the Sandpiper pipeline case in St. Paul, Minnesota. The organization is presenting cutting-edge tribal law for environmental protection. At 12:30pm, there will be a group of drummers and a press conference with Winona LaDuke, to raise awareness of the concerns of tribal members. At 1:30, we are trying to pack the PUC office with supporters of Honor the Earth's motion, in order to encourage the dismissal of the pipeline case. The primary argument is that the state lacks jurisdiction in White Earth territory because of inherent treaty rights as reaffirmed and a general opposition to fracked oil being transported via pipelines across northern Minnesota to potentially be shipped by barge over the Great Lakes.

Comments from the proponents and opponents will be heard, beginning withWinona LaDuke Honor the Earth then the North Dakota Pipeline Company then a rebuttal by Honor the Earth and initial argument by the White Earth Band of Ojibwe.

Please join us in person if you can, to pack the PUC offices for a rally and press conference at the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission Large Hearing Room 121 7th Place East, 3rd Floor, St Paul, MN:

If you can't be there in person, watch the oral arguments online here and please make a comment to the Public Utilities Commission, to let them know your thoughts on the Sandpiper Pipeline Project. This is our chance to let the PUC know what we think of more pipelines going through the North Country!

More information about the Sandpiper Pipeline Project and about submitting a comment to the PUC is available here, on Honor the Earth's website:
