Quarterly Reports

Across Turtle Island, extractive industries are targeting Indigenous lands to build hyper scale data centers, critical mineral mining projects, oil pipelines, and nuclear energy plans that will only harm us while fueling surveillance and militarism here and overseas. At Honor the Earth, we're organizing with members of over 15 different tribal nations from Arizona to Montana to South Dakota to Oklahoma, building diverse local and international coalitions with those on the frontlines of every community we are a part of and invited into, and leading the way for other organizations of various sizes and scope to reject false solutions. We've already begun a difficult process of de-Googling our organization and divesting from platforms that mandate the use of artificial intelligence, while working around the clock to innovate and resist even where there are no existing solutions or protections. Every frontline fight that our team supports is as unique as the local communities that are leading them, but they’re united by a common goal: to disrupt the death cycle of artificial intelligence that’s killing our Mother Earth.

In our inaugural report on Q1, we’re taking a deep dive into the grassroots battles brewing in Oklahoma, where Honor the Earth organizers are fighting in 16 communities and counting, to block the building and expansion of hyper-scale data centers. We take a look at some of the key interventions that build the broader organizing strategy used by Honor the Earth against data centers and how that shapes the specificities of the frontlines in Oklahoma. Although this report is specific to Oklahoma, these same interventions have been used by our organizers working across Turtle Island against extractive companies threatening our land and people, from Montana to South Dakota. Our assessment identifies how these interventions take an incomparable form based on the details of each site of resistance. This work is happening across partisan divides, in rural areas and city centers, and has led to massive success in Oklahoma due to the community uprising.

This is just a small snapshot of the tremendous amount of labor being done by our team across the country and the globe. We’re excited to share even more with you in the months to come.
