We're sending an all-Native delegation to the North of Ireland this fall to meet with organizers from the Bloody Sunday Trust in the city of Derry! All proceeds from this item go towards supporting our delegation and strengthening Native-Irish solidarity.
Over the course of a week, the delegation will meet with organizers to share stories and histories, find commonalities, and to learn lessons of successes and setbacks. The delegation will meet with Irish writers, culture keepers, student organizers, and folks at the forefront of Irish language revitalization.
This design draws connection between the people of Éire and Turtle Island. The plants represented in the shape of two homelands tell the story of two peoples who, though far away, have shared the long struggle of defending their land from colonialism. The Easter Lily is worn in honor of all those who have been martyred in the name of Irish independence and freedom from occupation. The sage and Wild Rose are traditional medicine for Indigenous people across Turtle Island. Sage is a plant that is likewise beloved and held sacred to Palestinians, who share a long history of joint struggle against imperialism with the indigenous people of both Éire and Turtle Island.
This artwork was created by an indepenent artist, Jackie Romero. Jackie is a Palestinian and Latina artist and organizer born and raised in San Francisco/Yelamu. She has been organizing for collective liberation for the last five years through cultural resistance.
